Helen’s
work as a remedial trainer is specifically focussed on young horses in
the first two years of ridden work and older horses that require
re-training.
Working with horses from all disciplines, Helen focuses on
correct physical development. Her aim is to allow horses to carry their
rider with a minimum of effort and optimum natural expression.
Young horses learn to go forward freely whilst developing their
strength to carry themselves in balance. Once they can carry
themselves, ridden work continues, building on the correct foundations
to help secure long term soundness and performance.
Older horses rediscover freedom of movement, helping them overcome physical limitations that often also improve behaviour.
Throughout a program of work, Helen is supported by a team of
Vets and other health practitioners who, together, ensure horses are
working in a manner most suitable for correct physical development or
recovery.
All horses are ridden in Solution treeless saddles. Total Saddle Solutions
has a close association with Dr Sue Dyson at the Animal Health Trust in
Newmarket. Dr Dyson has found these saddles useful in helping
diagnose lameness due to the increased freedom of movement the saddle
allows. Lameness otherwise masked by a general discomfort under saddle
can be pinpointed more accurately once the horse is moving more freely.
Horses are worked in various stimulating ways including
lungeing, long lines, out on the grass tracks, on the roads, across
varied country, in the school and over varied fences, in all weathers,
in company and alone. Occasionally horses are loaded in the lorry and
taken to cross country courses, on hacks and to local competitions.
Schooling livery is available at The Therapy Barn at £24 per day.
